Michael Blaise
Michael served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp from 1984-1988. He worked in Intensive Care and Trauma units.He continued to work in Intensive Care and Trauma units during his first year in law school at the University of Houston. Michael served as President of the Health Law Organization and was awarded the Prudential Health Law Scholarship.After graduating from the University of Houston he spent five years litigating complex obstetrical malpractice cases. During those 5 years he gained invaluable deposition and trial experience.He continues litigating complex medical malpractice cases. He has tried many cases including obstetrics, neuroradiology, cardiology, anesthesiology, gastroenterology, radiology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, internal medicine, pain management, general surgery, and family practice.He has defended several hospitals in cases involving emergency care, decubitus ulcer care, and falls. Representative Experience / Major Accomplishments
- Successfully defended an obstetrician against allegations of negligent during delivery causing minor plaintiff to suffer brachial plexus injury, claiming over $2 million in damages.
- Successfully defended an obstetrician against allegations that his delivery technique caused a shoulder dystocia which resulted in minor plaintiff suffering from a brachial plexus injury. Plaintiff claimed gestational diabetes and excessive force caused permanent disability and over $1.5 million in damages.
- Successfully defended an internist against allegations that after plaintiff underwent hip surgery he mismanaged her hospital care over the next four months causing decubitus ulcer, sepsis, and death. The heirs sought several million dollars in damages and the jury found no negligence on the defendant.
- Successfully defended a neuroradiologist against allegations that he failed to properly read MRIs of the brain which should have warned him that a subdural hematoma was growing. Plaintiff died of brain stem herniation following 7 days of obstruction at a hospital. Alleged damages were in excess of $4M.
- Successfully defended a radiologist against allegations that the ultrasound underestimated fetal weight by 60%.
